WSI Halfpipe Qualifiers Underway at Whistler Blackcomb

WSI Halfpipe Qualifiers Underway at Whistler Blackcomb

The last major event of the season is upon us: the 2010 World Skiing Invitational Superpipe Competition.

Qualifiers are going on right now up on Blackcomb mountain in the 22-foot pipe. 20 women and 60 men are vying for a limited number of spots: 4 finals spots for women; 20 semi-finals spots for the men.

Those who advance will boot up for tomorrow’s semi finals, where they will compete against an additional 10 invited/pre-qualified athletes at 11 am. After the men’s and women’s finals, competitors will head back up to the top of the pipe for the famed Superhit contest. The rider-judged, winner-takes-all event is sure to showcase some ridiculous one-hit trickery, especially with this year’s 22-foot pipe.

We will update you on who advances to the finals once qualifying is done today.

Schedule, Tuesday, April 20
10 – 10:30 am – training
11 am – 12:30 pm – Men’s semi finals
1 – 2:30 pm – Men’s and Women’s finals

3:45 pm – Awards on the main stage
