Patagonia breaks into the food game with Wild Salmon Jerky

It’s been long awaited to see if Patagonia would ever break into the food game. Being the outdoor sports company that they are, it was no surprise when a box of Patagonia Provisions showed up at the Freeskier/Snowboard office.
Keeping with founder and owner Yvon Chouinard’s mission to increase awareness on key environmental issues and to prove that good businesses can also be good for the environment, Patagonia Provisions aims to provide consumers with sustenance that is sustainable in both vision and practice.
Patagonia’s first edible offering is a Wild Salmon Jerky that comes in three robust flavors: smoked black pepper, smoked teriyaki and smoked chili pepper – all three are pretty damn good.
The smoked chili pepper was our favorite as it had a little kick in it. Each flavor was well balanced and didn’t give off that overbearing salmon smell or taste that deters one from other salmon products. Lastly, each flavor’s consistency was different than that of a normal beef jerky as it flaked off perfectly leaving you with easy to eat pieces.
For you fishing enthusiasts, Patagonia only uses selectively harvested, river-caught, wild pink and sockeye salmon, ensuring that less-abundant species continue their migration unharmed.
So, if you’re looking for a sustainable, healthy alternative for your long journeys in to the backcountry or you just enjoy really good salmon, give the new Patagonia Provisions a try.
