Yesterday, Crested Butte Mountain Resort sent off the final Saturday of the ski season in style. A badass rail jam in the base area put the skills of several Crested Butte locals on display. Then, the annual pond skim provided a multitude of memorable moments, whether because of the ridiculous costumes donned by participants or the gut-wrenching spills taken in the chilly water. The FREESKIER crew even had the opportunity to tackle the famed steeps of the resort tucked into Colorado’s subliminal Elk Mountains. Conditions were spectacular. When the festivities were over it was time to put the proverbial cherry on top of a perfect day, and it came in the form of the final edition of our six-stop party tour, FREESKIER FEST, hosted this time around at Crested Butte’s own BONEZ Tequila Bar & Grill.

Being a tequila bar, there were tons of shots being thrown back and top-notch margaritas being downed. The bar was crowded, yes, but the main attraction was the dance floor. One of the biggest highlights of the night was being in the presence DJ Wendy Fisher. Hello, remember Global Storming? The certified badass skier, former Matchstick Productions star, two-time World Extreme Skiing Championship winner and Crested Butte Mountain Resort ambassador pumped out the jams for the rowdy crowd of party-goers. Cheers to you, Wendy. Additional industry folk in attendance included CBMR marketing communications manager Megan Collins and content coordinator Chris Segal, Steve Winter of MSP Films and some of the star participants from the Snowblade Extreme Championships, held on CBMR’s Headwall terrain earlier in the day. Throw in the additional throng of Crested Butte locals who came out and you’ve got yourself one helluvah skiing soiree.

While it’s always bittersweet to say farewell to the ski season, the people of Crested Butte sure knew how to do it right. We won’t soon forget the incredible (read: hilarious) action of the Snowblade Extreme Championships, the high-octane rail jam action or the top-notch spring corn served up at the resort. FREESKIER extends a big thank you to BONEZ Tequila Bar & Grill for hosting, Ms. Fisher for the audio excellence and Crested Butte Mountain Resort for allowing us to invade their town, and for welcoming us with open arms.

And don’t fret: Just because the FREESKIER FEST extravanganza is over for the 2015-16 season, we’ll still be hosting several swanky events in ski towns across western North America this spring in conjunction with our inaugural Photo Shootout contest.
