BOULDER, CO — FREESKIER magazine is excited to announce a bolstering of its photographic initiatives, as Nate Abbott assumes the role of Senior Contributor, and Chris Thompson joins the team as Associate Photo Editor, effective immediately.
Abbott has been an instrumental part of FREESKIER since 2011, most recently serving as the brand’s Senior Editor and Photo Editor. In his new position, Abbott will serve as FREESKIER’s senior photographer, writer and web contributor—focusing his energy and talents in the field to create unique, top-notch content for FREESKIER’s print and digital collections.
“Telling the stories of skiing through photography and writing have been my passion for over 10 years,” says Abbott. “To be on location with the athletes who drive the sport of freeskiing is a special opportunity and I’m ecstatic to return to focusing on producing stories and photographs full time.”
Going forward, Abbott will work hand in hand with Thompson. “Working with an experienced photo editor in-house will be great for me and for the magazine,” Abbott continues. “The collaboration with Chris will continue to push the photographic look of FREESKIER and maintain the magazine’s position as the visual voice of our sport.”
Thompson comes to FREESKIER with a strong background in photography, having most recently worked as Assistant Photo Editor at SKI and SKIING Magazines, shooting product, assignment, contest and travel photography. Thompson has worked many of the year’s biggest events from X Games, to Dew Tour, Freeride World Tour at Kirkwood, The North Face PPOS at Copper, SIA and more.
In his new post, Thompson will assist in the management of photo flow for FREESKIER magazine and its digital properties. Additionally, he will take the lead in the production of all in-house studio and product photography.
Thompson earned a BFA in Photography from University of Cincinnati School of Design, Art, Architecture, and Planning. He also studied Public Relations, Journalism, and Cinema, and bookended college with ski bum seasons in Utah at PCMR and Brighton.
“There isn’t a better way to start the New Year than with this bunch of badasses. I’m so excited to work with Nate, and the rest of the team,” says Thompson. “We have such amazing contributors, I’ve worked with many of them before. I identify closely with the irreverence of the FREESKIER attitude and I look forward to drawing upon the various voices of our contributors, and helping to share the story of freeskiing to the masses.”
