After a full week of ski testing on Ajax, our crew of loyal and durable testers took over the Sky Hotel pool area for an epic showdown. The stakes were high with pride on the line and a coveted shot ski awaited the winner.

As the bracket marched towards the final match, hopes were crushed, triumphs were celebrated and the tension could be cut with a knife. Who would be crowned Freeskier’s world flip cup tournament champion?

The sun set, and two teams emerged in the finals; the Boston Tea Party, a group of testers hailing from the Commonwealth of Massachusetts, and a motley crew of strangers from San Diego. The Boston team had won the two previous day’s flipcup tournaments with come from behind wins against the formidable Freeskier edit team.

The air was thick with competition, and this editor witnessed an attempt by team San Diego to sandbag the Boston team by overfilling a Boston cup or two.

In the end, it was the San Diego team that pulled off the improbable upset over the Boston Tea Party, thus winning a beautiful shotski, courtesy of Harmonic Media and Folsom Skis. It would be the Boston Tea Party, and our group of testers, who would have the last laugh, however. As the night wore on, and more drinks were consumed, the shotski was reclaimed from the tourists, and now calls Aspen, Colorado home. Successfully recovered, the shot ski was brought to the testing area in the morning and we celebrated fresh snow and good times. Don’t mess with the #FreeskierFest vibe.

Thanks once again to the sponsors of the event, Snocru, Sky Hotel/39 Degrees, RESQWATER, and Aspen Brewing Company.
