What’s better than one GoPro Hero4 with high-resolution 4K30/2.7K60 video capabilities and the ability to produce 1080p120 and 720p240 slow motion footage? Six of them… on one rig! GoPro recently unveiled its 360-degree Omni camera array, which utilizes six synchronized Hero4 Black cameras to produce an interactive, 360-degree view video. Just use your mouse to click the video and change directions, giving you full view of the action. They gave the rig to team athletes like Jesper Tjäder and Halldor Helgason at the massive Nine Queens set-up in the Tyrolean Alps of Austria and the result is pretty impressive. GoPro used “Lost and Found” (Odesza Remix) by Pretty Lights as the soundtrack for the video, but I would’ve suggested “Virtual Insanity” by Jamiroquai. To each their own.
The Omni was made as an affordable alternative to GoPro’s $15,000, 16-camera set-up, the Odyssey. If you have a spare $5,000 lying around, you can purchase yours, here.
In other news, it turns out 360-degree POV videos aren’t just for skiers:
