Taos legend Rhoda Blake, founder of Taos Ski Valley and Ski Santa Fe, recalls a story he once heard about a man from the East recollecting a trip to New Mexico. “He told him how great the skiing was out here and that the snow was so much better out here. And afterwards one man came up to him and said ‘You know Arnie, you’re the best liar I’ve ever heard.’ Who’d heard of snow in New Mexico?”
Historic snowfall totals fell upon New Mexico this February, dropping over 70 inches of bottomless powder. While the rest of the Rockies were in dire need of any bit of snow, Taos Ski Resort couldn’t get enough. Locals and visitors alike took advantage of the extra snow by getting out there and just sending it. Next year you may want to head to the Southwest for another mid season storm—just don’t forget your snorkel.
