When the Castle Rock Fire of 2007 encroached on Sun Valley, Idaho, residents of the area didn’t yet realize how impactful the blaze would be. Six years after Castle Rock an even more devastating fire, coined the Beaver Creek Fire, started from a lightning strike in the backcountry of the Sawtooth Mountains. Luckily, Sun Valley and the surrounding areas already had a charred barrier to keep the new flames away from town.
