Though it was released by Salomon a few months back, Josh Daiek posted, “Mountain State 2.0” on his personal YouTube page. This made us think it was time to revisit the Nevada-based ski expedition series.
When one thinks of the most desirable ski destinations around, the first place that comes to mind is probably not… Nevada. Close by, there are many ski area gems on the other side of the state’s border. California’s Mammoth Mountain, Palisades Tahoe, Kirkwood Resort and others lay just a short drive away from Reno. However, they are not technically in Nevada. But, despite the love shown to the other side of the border, Josh Daiek is here to tell you that Nevada is well worth any adventurous skier’s attention. And when Josh Daiek talks about skiing, we listen.
In “Mountain State 2.0,” Daiek is joined by Stan Rey and Trevor Semmens as he heads back into The Silver State. In a series of adventures, the team proves that there is incredible terrain in Nevada if you’re willing to put in the effort to get to it. In the depths of these mountains along Highway 50, you’ll find steep lines, very few people and great snow. The latter is not a guarantee, but it can certainly happen, as demonstrated here.
Born and raised outside of Detroit, Michigan, Daiek moved to California after high school with a dream and a work ethic that would make Dan Campbell proud. He first laid eyes on some of these areas over a decade ago. Lining up weather windows, travel plans and more can take a long time, and to see it come together for such a passionate and determined ripper is always beautiful.
But we won’t spoil anything else! The film was released by Salmon TV a few months back, so if you’ve seen it before, we’re to tell you it’s well worth a second watch. And if you haven’t had the pleasure of viewing this project, today is your lucky day. Be sure to dive into the full second edition of “Mountain State 2.0” below, and keep an eye out for Daiek in the new Blank Collective film coming this fall.
From YouTube:
Redemption. In the end, that was the objective for Josh Daiek and his crew in this sequel to last year’s adventure. In the first Mountain State, they embarked on a quest to find solitude and challenging lines in the middle-of-nowhere Nevada. But that one line had gotten the best of them, and there was no way they weren’t going back to give it another go. You know who had different plans? Mother Nature, that’s who. She turned the snow faucet on full blast and pointed it straight at Nevada, stacking up snow in the mountains in record fashion. Did they get redemption? I guess you’ll have to watch to find out. Did they have some of the deepest days and ski some of the rowdiest lines they ever thought possible? You’re damn right they did.
