Kai Mahler on tearing his ACL and the path to redemption

Most people remember the 2013 X Games Big Air final for its signature trick, Henrik Harlaut’s nosebutter triple cork. Kai Mahler placed second that night, but his memories of the event are bittersweet. Kai tore his ACL while successfully attempting a triple of his own. He was able to finish the competition, but quickly learned that the road to recovery would be long and difficult. A year later, Kai is fully healed and has his sights set on next month’s Olympic games.
