JP Auclair So Purely Played

Some images taken at Retallack Lodge during a photo shoot with Orage outerwear (March 19th to 23rd 2012). All from warm up runs and free runs.. (the best kind)

One night at dinner, Karl our cat driver, read an excerpt from Dolores LaChapelle’s 1978 book “Earth Wisdom”. I thought it was so awesome and wanted to share:

“Skiing, especially powder skiing, provides the ultimate experience of dynamic complex interrelationship between the members of a human group, the gravity of the earth, and the snow from the sky. […] One can never be bored by powder snow skiing because it is a special gift of the relationship between earth and sky. It only comes in sufficient amounts in particular places at certain times on this earth, it lasts only a limited amount of time before before sun or wind changes it. People devote their lives to it, “for the pleasure of being so purely played” by gravity and snow.”

After 30 years on skis, I can say I also believe one can never be bored by powder snow skiing.
