Chris Figenshau has traveled the world once-over alongside some of the most adventurous athletes in snowsports, daring to capture high-alpine exploits through the lens of his camera. He’s become the go-to guy for documenting the coldest, most demanding journeys imaginable and his travels have taken him to high into the Himalayas and the Atlas Mountains of Morrocco.
In the words of adventure skier and filmmaker Jimmy Chin: “All the on-slope, high-angle, really steep scary stuff, where you needed someone to be able to ski in the same way the talent was skiing—that’s Chris Figenshau.”
Nowadays, as a family man, Figenshau finds himself going back to his roots skiing at Jackson Hole Mountain Resort (JHMR), where he got his start as a photographer. Beginning his career as the “Photo of the Day” cameraman for JHMR’s website, Figenshau continues to create content at the Wyoming resort, the ever-changing weather and light conditions challenging him on a daily basis.
Unlike the far-off destinations he often finds himself in, ascending nameless peaks in the search of a ski descent on deep, pristine snow, skiing and photographing at JHMR keeps Figenshau honest about his craft and the consequences of his adventures. In this video biopic from Jackson Hole Mountain Resort, get to know the man behind the lens, who has been capturing some of skiing’s most extreme moments over the past two decades.
