Summit Series reveals Powder Mountain Resort development plan

Powder Mountain, home to the most skiable acreage of any resort in North America at over 7,000 acres, is getting a resort upgrade, courtesy of new owners The Summit Series. The plan, which is still seeking approval, will consist of 500 homes at the base of “Pow Mow”, as well as luxury homesites at mid-mountain.

Press Release, Eden, Utah, June 2, 2014:

The Summit Series, which purchased Powder Mountain ski resort here in 2013, has revealed its plan for a village and cultural/entrepreneurial paradise at the resort. If approved, Summit Powder Mountain will consist of 500 homesites and a village core.

Luxury homesites will sprout around the mid-mountain Hidden Lake; many will be a half acre or more. The village core at the mountain’s base will include restaurants, shops, and a variety of high-density residences. Some of these will offer “cultural residencies” for “artists, performers, scientists, activists, athletes and other change makers,” according to the Summit Powder Mountain website. The village will also host future Summit Series events, gatherings that aim to “build community, catalyze entrepreneurship, address global issues, and support artistic achievement, in an effort to make our world a more joyful place.”

Summit also plans to upgrade the lift system and to expand the trail network. It has said it has already installed a cell phone tower to improve communication and safety.

Summit purchased Powder Mountain for a reported $40 million through a crowdsourcing effort last year. It owns nearly 10,000 acres, with 7,000 skiable acres on six peaks.

Summit Powder Mountain is both an extension of and home for the Summit Series itself, a series of invitation-only retreats and discussions focused on business practices, technological innovation, and raising awareness and funds for various charitable causes. “Over the past six years, Summit’s flagship event series has connected and inspired thousands of thought leaders. The collaborative, supportive, and passionate individuals who attend these Summit Series events now have a permanent place to gather year round,” the website says.
