Oh, Canada! Lake Louise is the first ski resort open north of the border

Lake Louise Ski Resort kicked off the 2014-15 ski season today, becoming the first Canadian resort to spin the lifts this winter. Cold temperatures and tons of snowfall made for quite the opening celebration. In observance of the beginning of the season, the Lake Louise’s Sitzmark Lounge will host the Riders Aid Season Opener Party beginning at 9 p.m. tonight. The event will raise money for the Rider Aid Charity, providing clean drinking water for those African countries in need. For more information on the 2014-15 ski season at Lake Louise, see the press release below.

Press Release provided by Lake Louise Ski Resort:

Banff, Alberta — Skiers and snowboarders it’s time to dust off your ski clothes and tune up the gear. The Lake Louise Ski Resort, the Giant of Canadian Skiing, officially opens today November 13th claiming the title of first resort in Canada to open for the 2014-15 ski season.

Mother Nature returned with a vengeance this week bringing colder temperatures and ample snowfall to Banff-Lake Louise and its three ski resorts, allowing Lake Louise Ski Resort to lead the pack in turning on those chairs and opening its terrain to skiers and boarders.

To celebrate, The Riders Aid Season Opener Party will kick off the season on Friday, November 14 at 9pm in the Sitzmark Lounge. Presented by Unlimited Snow and Skate Shop, the event will raise money for the Riders Aid Charity which provides clean drinking water in Africa. Tickets are available in advance and may be purchased at the resort.

What’s new for the 2014/15 Season?

The Lake Louise Ski Resort will continue to host the annual FIS Winterstart Alpine World Cup in late November and early December, as the fastest skiers in the world compete for season opening titles in Downhill and Super G.

Visitors can look forward to an even greater on-hill experience in 2014/15, with improved grooming and snowmaking as well as new executive chef offering a wider variety of healthy food options and enhanced food and beverage choices. Located at 6,700ft (2,042 m) the refreshed mid-mountain Whitehorn Lodge Restaurant will open with an updated alpine-themed menu coupled with some of the most spectacular views at the resort.

Also happening today, Sunshine Village is hosting their annual sneak-a-peek ‘Ski Before We Open’ promotion for a few lucky fans & followers in advance of the official opening tomorrow, Friday, November 14th. Mt Norquay is tentatively scheduled to open in late November, stay tuned for updates.
