Abominable Labs launches Kickstarter campaign for new F-BOM anti-fog ski goggles

Having your ski goggles fog up can be a pain in the ass. Inevitably, moisture build-up inside of your goggles will react with your increased body temperature—from going balls to the wall out on the hill—and steam up your lenses. Usually the best strategy to combat goggle fogging is to avoid touching them at all costs. Now, there may be another solution.

Abominable Labs has introduced its F-BOM anti-fog ski goggles, which utilizes the brand’s KLAIR technology—a thin, transparent and conductive strip of film placed between the inner and outer lens that, when heated up, will act similarly to the defrost function of your car, clearing up unwanted steam quickly. In addition, the KLAIR technology features two different modes; the first, active, remains engaged and defrosting your goggles the entire day. The second, boost, turns on with the push of the button for on demand anti-fog capabilities.

Abominable Labs just launched a Kickstarter campaign for the F-BOM, with a goal of reaching $50,000 before October 31, 2014. For more on the impressive new ski goggles, take a look at the press release below and visit its Kickstarter page to contribute.

Press Release, Abominable Labs:

Lake Oswego, Oregon: Abominable Labs, LLC (ABOM), is pleased to introduce the F-BOM, the world’s first truly fog-free snowsports goggles, featuring patented KLAIR™ technology. The F-BOM launches on Kickstarter today.

“Today’s goggles can display your speed and location, take pictures, show text messages and more, but all of that advanced technology is worthless if you can’t see,” says ABOM founder, Dave McCulloch. “We’ve tried all the ‘anti-fog’ technologies on the market, from hydrophobic coatings to electric fans, and none of them are very effective.”

McCulloch turned to his longtime friends, IP Attorney Howard Russell and inventor Jack Cornelius, for a better solution. After years of prototyping and testing, Cornelius and his team of engineers designed KLAIR, an ultra-thin, transparent, conductive film sandwiched between the inner and outer lens in the F-BOM goggle. When the film is heated up it works much like a car’s rear window defroster, removing fog from the goggles in seconds. A small, lightweight, rechargeable lithium-ion battery mounted inside the goggle provides power.

The KLAIR system in the F-BOM features two modes: active and boost. Active mode is always on and eliminates fog all day. Boost mode provides the on-demand elimination of fog with the tap of a button.

The F-BOM features a scratch-resistant, polycarbonate lens from Carl Zeiss to provide the best clarity with zero distortions, as well as 100 percent protection from UVA, UVB and UVC rays. Using an innovative and intuitive system, the lens can be easily interchanged with red, yellow and dark tints for different light conditions.

The F-BOM Kickstarter campaign has a goal to raise $50,000 before October 31, 2014. ABOM will also have a booth at the SIA tradeshow in January 2015. For more information on ABOM check out www.abom.com.
