Ski mountaineering is no joke. There are hundreds of variables to keep in mind constantly, and one wrong choice can be catastrophic. The simple act of losing a mitten can bring about serious consequences. In conditions such as these, there is only one frame of mind to channel; the Teton Hard B*tch. It’s a saying pioneered by Jackson Hole-based pro skier Madison Rose Ostergren, and it can mean many things. Do your absolute best, push personal limits, take your goal seriously without taking yourself too seriously, and many more.
Fellow Jackson Hole pro skier Veronica Paulsen channels all those things and more in her own right. As the first woman to backflip into Corbet’s Couloir, she’s no stranger to confronting her fear. But sometimes we all need advice. These two powerhouses are brought together by a desire to ski the famed JH line Apocalypse Couloir. With two 60-meter repels and a couple of thousand feet in vertical approach, this line is an intimidating behemoth. Take a look at the preparation that goes behind a massive line like this as Rose preps Paulsen for a true ski mountaineering endeavor.
