Torin Yater-Wallace defends title, wins 2013 X Games Tignes superpipe gold

Aspen, Colorado’s Torin Yater-Wallace (17) topped a field of eight skiers today in Tignes, France, securing his second straight gold medal in superpipe at X Games Tignes. This also continues Torin’s streak of medaling at X Games—he’s made the podium at every X Games event he’s entered, since his first in 2011, for a total of six medals between both Aspen and Tignes.

“I think everybody skied really well tonight,” Torin told ESPN. “It was just such a high-level competition. I was so surprised, I couldn’t believe I won again.” Yater-Wallace led after run #1 with a 91.0. Unseated by both Wise and Rolland amid run #2, Torin came out of the gates strong on his third and final attempt, bagging a 93.66. His winning run consisted of a right double cork 12 mute, left cork 10 tail, switch right cork 7 mute, alley-oop double flat 9 Japan and a double flat 9 Japan to close.

Joining Torin on the podium today were 2013 X Games Aspen gold medalist David Wise, in second, and hometown hero Kevin Rolland placing third.
