It’s officially ski season… for the skier’s left portion of the continent.
As of today, Killington, VT, Sunday River, ME and Mont Saint-Saveur, QC are the only ski resorts open to the public in North America. Killington opened for season pass holders on Sunday, while Sunday River and Mont Saint-Saveur both began spinning lifts on Monday. It marks the second earliest opening in Mont Saint-Saveur’s history.
As for the western part of North America, overnight temperatures are set to drop, which should enable snowmaking to kick off in full force. The forecast for the rest of the week looks quite promising along the Continental Divide in Colorado. Loveland and Arapahoe Basin are usually the two resorts vying for the first in the state to open. Joel Gratz at OpenSnow is projecting six inches or more east of the Divide.
Bring it on, Old Man Winter.
