The Pharcyde brings the house down for the Kings and Queens of Corbet’s Awards Ceremony

The Pharcyde brings the house down for the Kings and Queens of Corbet’s Awards Ceremony

To cap off one of the rowdiest events in skiing—Kings and Queens of Corbet’s at Jackson Hole Mountain Resort—FREESKIER and Tincup Whiskey brought The Pharcyde to the official Awards Party at the Pink Garter Theatre in downtown Jackson, Wyoming, last night. The legendary hip hop group rocked a sold out crowd with an array of their biggest hits while Caite Zeliff and Travis Rice, the winners of the competition, which was held on Tuesday, February 12, walked away with $10,000 dollars each and a lifetime of bragging rights.

Asking 24 of the best skiers and snowboarders from across the globe to launch themselves into one of the most iconic inbounds runs in North America, Kings and Queens of Corbet’s pits top riders against one another in a peer-judged contest that’s unlike anything else. The results from this years competition for the ladies placed Caite Zeliff on top for the second year in a row, snowboarder Hana Beaman in second and Jackson Hole Ski Patroller Ashley Babcock in third. On the men’s side, Travis Rice took home top honors while Karl Fostvedt came in second place—just one point behind Rice—and Blaine Gallivan rounded out the podium in third.

This year, the Rider’s Choice Award, presented in honor of late Jackson Hole skier Bryce Newcomb, was given to High Fives Foundation athlete Trevor Kennison, who launched into Corbet’s on his sit-ski and stuck the landing to a roaring crowd. The sight of Kennison boosting into the famed couloir was hands-down the most inspiring moment of the competition.

To reach a judging conclusion, event organizers held a viewing session in the movie theater at Teton Gravity Research’s flagship store in Jackson this week. In this session, the athlete-judges evaluated their peers on style, difficulty, execution and overall impression and were able to decide which athletes would be crowned King and Queen of Corbet’s this year. But the results were kept a secret until Saturday night just moments before The Pharcyde hit the stage.

Team FREESKIER also had the chance to hype the crowd before the concert with gear giveaways, including brand new FREESKIER t-shirts, beanies from Discrete, SPY Goggles and pair of custom J Skis. And because there’s no better way to win a pair of skis, we brought four members of the audience on-stage for a simple beer chugging competition—first person to chug his or her beer wins. Needless to say, the crowd was in awe when our winner took two gulps and made her beer disappear.

In a true “who’s who” in the outdoor industry, attendees of the sold out awards ceremony and concert included last year’s King and Queen of Corbet’s, Karl Fostvedt and Caite Zeliff, snowboarding legend Travis Rice, mono-ski superstar Trevor Kennison, local rippers Tristan “Teton” Brown, Blaine Gallivan and Coen Bennie-Faull.
