Telluride

Telluride

Number 08

T-ride is relatively small, compared to the other Top 10 resorts, but Telluride doesn’t waste acres with “groomers” and “beginner” runs. It just gets straight to it, with some of the best on-piste action around. The recently opened Revelation Bowl, serviced by a high-speed quad, Is exposed to all those westerly storms coming through the San Juans, giving skiers an above-tree line option to rock down. Looking for something spectacular? Try the terrain in the Bear Creek area. Telluride locals we’ve skied with claim that it rivals the terrain in Jackson, and we think they have an argument. Bear Creek is the real deal, especially if you’re willing to hike to the chutes across the valley.

The town of Telluride is split into two distinct areas — the Mountain Village has a new resort feel while the Old Town seems more likean Aspen — so when the sun sets, know that you have options. We suggest you spend your evenings in the old town, where the cheaper lodging and local watering holes are located. Celebrate a great Telluride day with a drink at the Last Dollar Saloon or the Fly Me To The Moon Saloon and you might have trouble waking up for that next great day.
