Simon Dumont, Riley Poor and Blake Jorgenson take the peoples choice award at Jon Olsson Super Sessions
Ten days in Are, Sweden, a time frame and location given to quite possibly one of the most progressive ski contests to date. Ten teams of three (Athlete, Filmer and Photographer) joined together to film on some of the biggest jumps Jon has ever built in his home town of Are. The teams were given ten days to shoot and produce a five minute piece that would be showcased the final night in front of a screaming Are crowd. As the competition began teams broke apart and began collecting the elements needed to showcase everyone on the teams talents. Dollies and cranes scattered the Tott Hotel Lobby and the world’s top professional skiers were commonly seen coming and going, and you could only assume with the wonderful weather everyone was killing it. Each day there was another feature Jon had handcrafted and molded to perfection for all the teams to session. An ultimate “junk show†as far as film shoots are concerned yielded some of the best riding on the biggest jumps we have seen this season.
Team Dumont took a step back from your typical “ski porn†edit and tried to capture the essence of what competing in a contest like this really meant to Simon himself. After day in day out editing and shooting the team felt they had put together something truly special that would win the crowd and the judges. However the judging did not go in team Dumont’s favor although they posted the highest scores of the night for both filming and overall impression. The talented team of Sammy Carlson would walk away with the overall title. However in true Dumont style the crowd got on their feet and made some noise pushing the decibel level higher than any team of the night winning them the Peoples Choice Award! Matt Murray and Greg Strokes were on hand from Oakley to give out some sick watches for winning over the crowd.
