Take Flight With Sam Kuch, Arc’teryx & CK9 Studios in “Space Craft”

Humanity is engineered to explore. That’s certainly the way it seems. Even when the signs are clear, and danger is ever present, we push forward. Venturing into the mountains might seem mundane compared to space travel, but the parallels are certainly there, as made clear in “Space Craft.” This two-year project from Whitewater’s own Sam Kuch, CK9 Studios and Arc’teryx is one of the best short films of the year, hands down. Kuch is one of the best freeride skiers on the planet (and beyond). He continues to not only tame lines that are gargantuan but also throw tricks that make you question what a human is capable of. And he does it from take-offs that are less than ideal. No pristine park jumps here.

The cinematography from CK9 is another component that makes this project stand out. CK9 has proven that they’re as technical and creative as any other studio out there. They’ve developed a distinct style, pairing it with their knowledge and talent to make stunning shots come to life (see this clip from “Space Craft” for an example of exactly this.) From their project with The Blondes to last year’s “Yours Truly” with Cole Richardson, the team has been on a tear. Speaking of Richardson, keep an eye out for his tandem shred featured in this project. Enough talk. Time to take flight.

From YouTube:

The dream of man. The long, impossible dream to reach out to the moon. Fly along with Sam Kuch as he explores the parallels between skiing and space travel. A mastery of weightlessness and gravity, and an ode to the ultimate explorers of our time. 10 seconds and counting.
