Sunday River, Maine set to open this Saturday, October 26

Newry, Maine’s Sunday River is set to open for the ski season this coming Saturday, October 26. The resort will be open from 8:00 a.m. until 3:30 p.m., and should have two trails open to make some early season turns, accessed by the Locke Mountain Triple chair. Sunday River also intends on having a rail or two available for early season jibbers, but it’s still dependent on the amount of snow available. The resort encourages skiers to check out the Mountain Report for more information regarding opening day rails. Lift tickets are $29 for all ages.

Press Release, Newry, Maine, October 24, 2013:

Sunday River Resort announced today that there will be pre-Halloween turns. Thanks to snowmaking since Tuesday, the resort intends to open two trails for skiing and snowboarding this weekend, October 26-27, 2013.

“Anytime you can ski before Halloween it’s considered a success,” says Dana Bullen, Resort President and General Manager. “Our snowmakers have been working nonstop to get us to this point and we’re thrilled to be able to offer this experience.”

On Saturday, the resort will begin spinning its Locke Mountain Triple chairlift at 8 a.m. until 3:30 p.m. with skiing and snowboarding available on its T2 and Upper Sunday Punch trails. At the end of the day, guests will download using the lift’s mid-mountain station.

Open terrain scheduled for this weekend is for advanced skiers and snowboarders only. If temperatures allow, additional snowmaking will continue to take place throughout the weekend.

Lift tickets are $29 for all ages and available to purchase from the Baker Base Lodge. Season passes are also available to purchase/pick up for the 2013/14 season out of the South Ridge Lodge.

Come Monday, October 28, Sunday River will shut down temporarily with plans to reopen in the near future. The resort will operate seven days a week once more terrain is opened.
