Sunday River

@sundayriver: FIRST TO OPEN! Come on up! We’re open for another hour and through the weekend!

This past weekend Sunday River started its pre-season snowmaking test, firing off 40 Boyne Low-Energy Fan Guns across the slopes located near the South Ridge Base Lodge. Yesterday, the resort used another 40 tower guns for a test that took place on the highest elevation points of Locke Mountain.

This weekend’s snowmaking test falls during resort’s annual Fall Festival Weekend and serves as a reminder to guests that winter is approaching. This timely display also serves to remind skiers and riders of the resort’s pre-season pass sale deadline taking place Monday, October 11, 2010.

Sunday River’s opening day for the 2010/2011 season is weather dependant and slated at this time for mid-November.

After a great night of snowmaking and seven fresh inches of snow overnight, Arapahoe Basin ski area officials are excited to announce opening day for the 2010-2011 ski season will be Monday, October 25, 2010. A-Basin will be opening with a new high speed quad chairlift – Black Mountain Express to take skiers and riders from the base area to mid-mountain.

Snowmaking at Arapahoe Basin began last night.  Eighteen guns were firing on the intermediate High Noon run.  Operations will continue as weather permits.  A-Basin’s high speed quad Black Mountain Express will be up and running on opening day. For more visit www.ArapahoeBasin.com.

Copper’s Race Training season is upon us and will begin their on-snow training this Saturday, October 23. As you can see from the attached pictures and video link below, Copperopolis trail, the main early season race training venue at Copper, is primed and ready to go for all the race teams and groups that have traditionally come to Copper for early season race training. Don’t worry – only 2 short weeks until everybody can shred Copper Mountain.

Mother Nature is cooperating and the conditions were superb for Copper to start making snow this past weekend. Oh yeah, and we wouldn’t have to make snow if you didn’t keep melting it with your good looks. There is no better time than right now to start thinking about skiing and snowboarding again for the winter and Copper is making it easier than ever to help you enjoy a Snow Day! www.coppercolorado.com

For the second season in a row, Loveland Ski Area is the first ski area to open in Colorado. Chair 1 will turn for the first time of the new season tomorrow, Sunday, October 24th at 9:00am.

“We had to wait out some warm weather which delayed Opening Day a little bit this year,” said Rob Goodell, Director of Business Operations. “But the good news is we will be skiing tomorrow on some really good snow. Our snowmaking team did a great job battling the warm weather and once again we are very proud to offer the first turns of the season.”

The lower section of Home Run and the lift maze snowmaking process is coming along. We made a lot of progress last night. You should hear some opening day news soon. Keep checking back for updates! Opening Day TBA

Snowmaking updates are available at www.skiloveland.com/snowmaking. The site will be updated continuously with pictures, videos and reports of snowmaking progress.
