Skullcandy throws it way back, releases limited-edition Icon headphones

Real quick, let’s throw it back to 2006. Hip jumps are introduced to terrain parks for athletes like Tanner Hall and Jacob Webster to reach crazy heights. Simon Dumont signed the first corporate sponsorship in the industry with Target and Skullcandy released the original Icon headphones, which quickly exploded all over the freeskiing scene with athletes like Tom Wallisch sporting the low-profile ‘phones on the slopes. Fast forward twelve years to 2018, Tanner Hall is competing in the 2019 Freeride World Tour, Tom Wallisch is still blowing minds in the park and Skullcandy is bringing back the classic Icon headphones with a timely twist.

Since the inception of the Icon–the world’s first snowsport-specific headphone–it has attracted a following of extreme athletes the world over. The last time the Icon appeared on shelves was in 2014, but we’re stoked to announce that the Icon is back for 2018 and, for the very first time, it’s completely wireless.

“It’s exciting to release a product that speaks to our heritage in board sports,” said Kathryn Smith, global brand director of Skullcandy, in a recent press release. “The Icon is and will forever be emblematic of Skullcandy’s heritage. It changed the way people experienced music on the mountain and we’re excited to give it the wireless treatment it deserves.”

The 2018 Icon Wireless headphones sport Bluetooth Wireless technology with a battery life that lasts 10 hours, a no-slip headband to keep these babies in place no matter how hard you’re bumpin’ and easy-to-use TapTech audio controls on the left ear cup so you never have to remove your gloves to take a call or change the song when you’re out shredding. The limited-edition Icon headphones are available in two color-ways, black and stone, and are available to purchase here.
