The Ski Channels, “The Story”, World Premiere Sells Out Manns Chinese Theatre in Los Angeles

Recently in Los Angeles, CA The Ski Channel presented their latest film, “The Story” to a sold out crowd at the Chinese Mann Theatre. Mike Douglas, Bobby Brown, Chris Benchetler, Eric Pollard, Kristi Leskinen, Gus Kenworthy and others were on hand to witness the world premiere and partake in the “Hollywood” like festivities. Check out the recap bellow.

Los Angeles, CA (Oct. 28, 2010) – The Ski Channel Film Tour transcended its own genre when some 1500 athletes, celebrities, skiers and new found snow sport enthusiasts braved Hollywood traffic and pouring rain to pack the Mann’s Chinese Theatre for a sold out world premiere of “The Story.”

The 7:00 pm showing saw premiere-goers spilling into the aisles and exceeded the iconic theatre’s 1250-seat capacity, prompting a second overflow showing of “The Story” at 9:45 pm. As snow sport filmmakers will testify, for 1500+ people to come out for a ski or snowboard film premiere in beach-sun cultured LA is uncanny.

The unprecedented LA ski film premiere turnout was trumped only by the enthusiastic and seemingly unanimous praise for the film. There are few occasions when ski and entertainment industry insiders find themselves absorbing and appreciating the same work of art together. The Ski Channel Chinese Theatre premiere was one of them.

“In a world where action sports, YouTube, and a wildly fast paced X generation demand more and more from each week, it was nice to see the Ski Channel bring the human interest element back to the forefront,” said X Games commentator and voice of skiing Chris “Uncle E” Ernst. ““The Story” is a multi level, personal journey that anyone can relate to, regardless of their knowledge of mountain sports. My kids and my mother in law were all inspired and in awe…a refreshing, moving and well-designed story.”

In true Hollywood fashion, there were an abundance of stars walking the snow-covered red carpet Sunday night. Donna Mills, Lisa Loeb, Dawn Lewis, Linda Thompson, Ernie Hudson, Brandon Jenner, Greg Louganis, Tara Lipinski, Sinjin Smith, Michael Johns, Vijay Amritraj and Chris “Uncle E” Ernst were among the some 70 plus actors, musicians, athletes and entertainers who came out for the premiere. However, the night belonged to Bobby Brown (2-time X-Games Gold Medalist), Mike Douglas (Godfather of Freeskiing) and fellow world-class skiers Chris Benchetler, Eric Pollard, Kristi Leskinen, Lynsey Dyer, Reggie Crist, along with “The Story” cast and crew.

Countless moments throughout “The Story” incensed cheers and applause from the audience including Mike Douglas and Cody Townsend getting towed into big waves on skis in Hawaii, Reggie Crist’s Haines, AK first descent, Leif Whitaker successfully summiting Mt. Everest, and Jamie Pierre skiing off a 255 ft cliff and skiing away unscathed. Two-time Paralympics’ Gold Medalist Stephani Victor’s tale of courage and perseverance was so powerful, it drove many an audience member to tears.

“We took a chance on making a different kind of film,” said Ski Channel Founder and the films’ Writer/Director Steve Bellamy. “Although this film had all the action and craziness of any ski/action film, it was the antithesis of the traditional ski porn film and we can’t believe the reactions. We were getting hugs and high fives from 3 year olds to 93 year olds, park skiers to discerning ski travelers. We couldn’t be happier.”

“The Story” is touring the country over the next three months, visiting locations nationwide. The movie will also soon be available on DVD and high definition Blu-ray. Visit theskichannel.com for more.
