There are few things that go together quite as well as skiing and music. Whether it’s bumping from the lift shack, your earbuds or the parking lot après party, powder turns are best complemented by a catchy beat. For the 12th year in a row, WinterWonderGrass returns to the grand stage of Steamboat Springs, set up against the beautiful backdrop of the Colorado Rockies from February 28-March 2, 2025.
Whether this is your first experience at the ultimate winter music festival or you look forward to it every year, WinterWonderGrass is a mountain music event that combines three day’s worth of live performances with breathtaking views, local brews and fresh mountain air. A ski all day, rock all night kind of weekend.
“In a world where many small independent festivals have disappeared, we are committed to filling the WonderGrass community cup with love,” says WWG founder Scotty Stoughton in a recent press release. “We are honored to create this experience for our WWG family and are humbled by the support of our folk.”
For three full days, skiers and riders enjoy bell-to-bell shredding at Steamboat Ski Resort but when the lifts stop spinning, the real party is just getting started. Set across multiple, intimate stages, festival goers will boot, scoot and boogie to a wide range of artists, including Trampled by Turtles, The California Honeydrops, Kitchen Dwellers, Leftover Salmon, Daniel Donato’s Cosmic Country, Sam Bush Band, Yonder Mountain String Band, The Brothers Comatose, Lindsay Lou, Mountain Grass Unit and more.
“The environment WWG creates for artists sets the stage for world class collaborations, epic shred sessions and some of the funnest hangs I’ve ever had,” says Torrin Daniels of Kitchen Dwellers. “Not for the faint of heart, but nothing says mountain town like the classic combo of black diamonds, beer and banjos. And don’t forget kids—Paul Cauthen skis in jeans.”

If sleep is of little priority, WinterWonderGrass’ late-night series, Grass After Dark, will be going off every evening at the Grand Hotel Ballroom, the Thunderhead Lodge on Steamboat Mountain, as well as the Old Town Pub and The Press in downtown Steamboat. These late-night sets are always special, providing the space for artists to collaborate and create on a whim.
If you’re bringing the kids along, Coletrain Music Academy’s pop-up Camp Coletrain is back at the Steamboat Grand Hotel on Friday, February 28 and Saturday, March 1. Camp Coletrain provides kids and adults the opportunity to participate in musical workshops from professional musicians and sit in on a public pick before gates open at 2 p.m. each day.
To round out the festival’s offerings, Taste of Wondergrass returns for 2025 to get the dancing juices flowing. Featuring new local brewers—plus wine, spirits, and seltzer—anyone 21 or older is invited to the complimentary tastings everyday from 2-4 p.m. in the three heated music tents. Those who purchase a three-day pass also receive a free commemorative WonderGrass cup with their wristband.

Note: Grass After Dark and Camp Coletrain tickets are sold separately.

While many come to WinterWonderGrass just for the music, it’s the all-around vibrations of the event that keep skiers in their boots long after last lap. New this year, a portion of all ticket proceeds will be donated to All Hands and Hearts to support hurricane relief efforts in North Carolina. So what are you waiting for? Grab your ski boots (and maybe an extra pair of dancing shoes) and we’ll see you in Steamboat for the pinnacle mountain party of the year.
