WINTER PARK FREESKIING OPEN – MARCH 13-14, 2010
In its second year, the Winter Park Freeskiing Open was born because of the lack of AM/PRO Freeskiing slopestyle opportunities and events for athletes last winter. The goal was to have a unique format event, provide the finalist with exposure via a live webcast, and put some money in the pockets of the best freeskiing athletes in the region. We wanted to level the playing field and give sponsored and un-sponsored athletes the same chance to enter and compete for all the finalist spots. No favorites played at this event, so if you want to break onto the scene amongst the best – you can do it here.
Event: Slopestyle, Open Class (no age-group classifications)
Format: Overall Impression from the 3 FIS certified judges panel
â–ª Qualifying: Best 1 of 2 runs slopestyle course. Top 10 men and Top 5 women advance to the Finals
â–ª Finals: Big Air. This year’s format TBA depending on the course layout.
Athletes:
â–ª No invitation required
▪ No pre-qualified athletes in Finals. The format for the finals will be unique and tailored to create an engaging webcast. The final 3 features in the course will be used – a rail feature to a double set of jumps. Each cometitor will have 3 runs through the features. The best 2 runs will be added to determine the final results. In other words, 3 runs, drop the lowest score, add it up and hand out the cash.
