The women’s superpipe competition of Winter X Games 12 featured the who’s who of women’s competition skiing. All the names were out… Kristi Leskinen, Sarah Burke, Grete Eliassen, Jess Cumming, Angeli VanLaanen, Jen Hudak and others were all in attendance but in the end, Ms. Burke went huge, spun a nine and grabbed gold. Miriam Yeager of Switzerland claimed silver and introduced herself to the X Games audience. And Jen Hudak can add another bronze to her X Games medal count having landed her first alley-oop five of comeptition.
Angeli VanLaanen had ben looking good in practice all week long but couldn’t stay on her feet and Grete Eliassen, gold medal winner of 2005 and 2006 and second place finisher last year, couldn’t put it all together and land everything all the way to the bottom either. Additionally, Kristi Leskinen was looking good and going big but had trouble in the middle of the pipe and went down in both of her runs as well.
Even with all the crashes, all the girls went for it. No safety runs allowed according to Jen and Sarah, everyone was giving it their all and women’s pipe is always fun to watch as all the girls fully support one another and truly have fun on the snow skiing together.
Gold: Sarah Burke
Silver: Miriam Jaeger
Bronze: Jen Hudak
