Denver, CO (January 22, 2008) Freeskiing’s proclaimed queen of air and style can now add original “Pro Core Girl” to her accomplishments, as she debuts Core Action Sports’ first pro team. Sarah Burke, one of the best skiers in the world, has been named to lead the Core Action Sports 2008 Pro team of skiers and riders.
Burke, 25, resides in Whistler, British Columbia and is a native Canadian. She started out as a competitive mogul skier, but once she started freeriding she quickly found her place in the world of skiing. At first she competed mostly with men, as there were few women’s events. Since 2001, the landscape has shifted significantly and Burke has garnered medals in most all major slopestyle and superpipe world contests. In fact, Burke is considered responsible for the inclusion of women’s freeskiing as an X Games event.
Currently Burke looks to defend her Superpipe Gold Medal title while competing in the Winter X Games January 24th-27th in Aspen, CO. Burke is a pioneer and role model for girls worldwide: not only has she has been instrumental in changing the world of women’s freeskiing, she has also raised the level of women’s skiing by being the first woman to land a 720, 900, and 1080 in competition.
“I’m excited to lead Core Action Sports’ new Pro Team. The company, their vision and the product definitely represent what I’m all about ¬– pushing myself and my sport, and looking great, while still being me,” says Burke. “Finally, with Core Action Sports there’s a top-notch site inspiring girls to get out there and rip…in style. I’m glad to be a part of it.”
Core Action Sports co-founders and sisters Courtney and Lisa Pugh couldn’t be more pleased with teaming up with Burke. Burke is a unique female athlete whose accomplishments and values match what Core Action Sports is about.
“Sarah is an amazing athlete who pushes the boundaries of freesking and action sports for women. She is a pioneer and a role model who embodies all that Core Action Sports has set out to do: to promote and empower girls’ participation in action sports,” says Co-Founder Lisa Pugh, “Our new Pro Team is a great way to highlight and support athletes like Sarah who are out there pushing their sports and paving the way for women’s action sports.”
