In Salomon’s latest edition to their 2008-09 season of Freeski TV, the very talented Keri Herman and Kaya Turski not only show off their new moves for the upcoming competition season, but they also remind us that professional freeskiers might be having too much fun, on and off the slopes.
Open scene to beautiful Snow Park, New Zealand, where all the pros test their tricks every summer. Despite its unfathomable distance from US soil, Kaya Turski can always find “familiar facesâ€. This is the ultimate testing ground for new tricks and the best place to re-familiarize oneself with those that lead to podium placement last season. However, part of getting back into the swing of things is getting reacquainted with the snow, even if it means eating it. Keri took a great dive (or two). Sadly, Keri tells me her best tumbler didn’t make the cut: the one she took on the way to make sure her friend was doing all right at the patrol station. Did I mention she ended up breaking her thumb? Oh, the irony. Good work, Keri. Luckily, an equally great and unexpected fall made the segment, where she scrapes up her arm pretty good. Hey, what is good skiing without inevitable and necessary crashes? Pretty boring. These ladies give us a healthy helping of both.
More than anything, this episode chronicles the lives of Keri and Kaya as they ski a bit and take full advantage of having fun off the snow. They show off their moves, but do not forget to live it up and act like fools.
Take a ride with Keri and Kaya as they sing along to Beyonce, feast on large hamburgers, destroy strawberry cupcakes, and even tempt fate on the ominous Canyon Swing.
