Georges Salomon (1925-2010), founder of Salomon Sports, passed away on October 5, 2010 at the age of 84, while peacefully sleeping in his home on Lake Annecy in France.
Salomon was best known for his revolutionary ski binding innovations. Creating the first releasable bindings in the mid ’50s, Salomon set the standard in the industry for binding safety. His releasable toe and heal pieces saved thousands of skiers from broken bones and twisted knees.
Salomon also created the first rear entry ski boot in the mid ’80s before starting to manufacture skis in 1990.
So next time you step into your binding (or come out for that matter) thank Mr. Salomon. His innovations are still being used and will never be forgotten.
He is survived by his wife Perry and two sons.
