POC Athlete Daniel Dhers Reigns BMX Comp at 2008 Summer X Games

POC team rider Daniel Dhers wins gold in the first ever Superpark competition at the 2008 Summer X Games 14 in Los Angeles, California. Dhers, who won X Games gold in last summer’s BMX park event continues to dominate the BMX scene; currently leading the 2008 Dew Tour standings Dhers appears unstoppable.

The Superpark brings a new event to this year’s X Games, replacing both the BMX and skateboard park events of years past. The new course layout is designed to bring more speed, momentum and fluidity to the competition. While many riders criticized the tight confines of the new course, Dhers remained un-phased by the changes, producing a performance that synched the top spot once again.

Dhers threw down three flawless runs, receiving the highest scores in each of the three 30-second runs. Dhers impressed the judges and easily edged out the competition with a 540 bar spin, and a huge double tailwhip transfer into a 720 over the spine, straight into a flair.

“This year, I want to continue to push the envelope,” says Dhers. “I like to bring new tricks to the sport and if it’s not something new for the sport, it’s something new for me. It’s always awesome to win a competition like the X Games.”

Dhers, 23, was born in Caracas, Venezuela and spends half his year training at one of the top BMX facility in the world, Camp Woodward in central Pennsylvania. He came onto the competitive BMX Park scene 3 years ago. His unwavering dedication has lead to continual victories and a steadfast reputation as a top competitor in the BMX world.

Dhers wears POC’s Receptor +, a multidiscipline helmet that meets the diverse certification requirements needed for a variety of different disciplines. The helmet can be used for snow sports, biking, skateboarding, and water sports. Fellow BMX Dirt rider, Anthony Napolitan also sports POC using POC’s Spine Ergo back protector for added back protection.

“Daniel continues to impress. He has really made his presence be known among the BMX scene this year,” comments Jarka Duba, CEO of POC USA. “As a company, POC is still fairly new to the BMX scene, so it has been fun to grow with Daniel and be an integral part of his success.“
