NOUVELLES VUES: A short film by Jacob Wester from the deep north of Sweden

In the northern region of Sweden, on the border of Norway, lies a little ski resort called Riksgränsen. A fabled ski destination immortalized by stories, films and photos encapsulating just how wild of a place it really is, Jacob Wester has made many pilgrimages to the area over the years. Particularly in the spring when the sun never sets, it provides some of the most unique ski opportunities in the world. While it’s usually the resort that summons Wester for jump builds and hot laps with friends, the neighboring peaks that sore above Riksgränsen have stolen the pro-skier’s attention.

The steep faces and high exposure have kept Wester mostly dreaming but when conditions lined up in the spring of 2021, it was game on. Along with his wife, Sofia Wester Sjöberg, Wester packed up the toboggan with a tent, food and camera gear and set out on a series of camping missions below these towering peaks. Carefully riding the line between obsession and safety, the duo were able to document the one-of-a-kind experience in their new short ski film, NOUVELLES VUES. What they discovered surpassed even their wildest fantasies about what freeride skiing in Sweden can look like.
