Reigning X Games slopestyle champion, Nick Goepper, added another title to his growing list by winning gold at the 2013 Austrian Open. Goepper laid out a stellar first run, showing his creative ability on the rails and stomping a switch left double cork 1080 Japan and switch right double cork misty 1260 mute earning him a 93.50. “I feel amazing,” said Goepper in a release. “I came here for the first time and didn’t know what to expect. The course is great, the mountain is great, food is great, people are great – just having a great time!”
Athletes and professional skiers competed at Snowpark Kitzsteinhorn on a course that consisted of a rail line, gap jump, high rail, and a kicker line with two massive jumps at the end. Thirty riders entered the semi finals and had two runs each to impress the judges. Ten of the athletes were then chosen to compete in the finals later that day.
Alongside Goepper was James Woods who took home silver with a 93.00. Woods showed off his skill with a double cork 1080 japan and a right double cork 1260 truckdriver. Not far off was McRae Williams with a 92.00 earning bronze with his switch left double cork 1080 Japan and a switch right double cork 1080 blunt to close out his run.
The women competed earlier in the week and showcased their skills. Lisa Zimmermann impressed the judges and took home the gold with an 87.50. Katie Summerhayes earned an 83.00 for silver and Kelly Sildaru followed with a 78.00 earning her the bronze.
