Winter is back in the West

Praise the snow gods, winter is back across the West! From the Sierras to the Rockies, deep snow totals have buried ski resorts across the entire West Coast, and the storms are forecasted to continue throughout this week. Unfortunately, these systems don’t seem to trickle far enough East for our ice-coasters.

Alterra Mountain Company set to purchase Arapahoe Basin

After 27 years of holding out and refusing to sell out, Arapahoe Basin is officially on the market and Alterra Mountain Company is set to purchase. Get those independently owned turns in while you can before the Front Range ski area is officially on the Ikon Pass.

Sale of Jackson Hole Mountain Resort is finalized

This summer, the Kemmerer family shared plans to sell the famed resort, and this week the sale is final. Investors and board members Mike Corbat and Eric Macy are the new proud owners of 2,500 skiable acres, and the local duo plan to keep the resort independently owned. Let’s hope it actually stays that way.

Olivia Giaccio storms the podium at FIS World Cup

Olympian Olivia Giaccio should be on a celebration tour this week after a historical weekend at Deer Valley for the moguls FIS World Cup. Being the first woman to land a cork 1080 in a World Cup competition, Giaccio took first place as well as third place later in the weekend. American Jaelin Kauf took second place behind Giaccio, making it the first U.S. 1-2 finish in decades.

Following its successful theatrical tour across North America, including its premiere at Banff Mountain Book and Film Festival, “Beyond Begbie” will now be available on Airtime Streaming with all profits from the initial release week going to the Inchelium Language and Culture Association.
