Marmot Donates 1,300 Jackets to Japan Disaster Relief
Industry News Release Written By: Jordan Campbell
Santa Rosa, (CA): In the aftermath of Japan’s devastating earthquake and tsunami last month which displaced thousands of residents in the country, Marmot has donated more than 1,300 jackets to victims of the March 11, 2011 catastrophe through AmeriCares, a disaster relief and humanitarian aid organization based in Stamford, Connecticut with satellite offices in India, Sri Lanka, El Salvador and Haiti (www.americares.org).
“We are overwhelmed by the magnitude of this global event” explains Mark Martin, President of Marmot Mountain LLC and Jarden Technical Apparel, a division of the Jarden Corporation and Marmot’s parent company. “The human cost of this disaster has been unprecedented and we wanted to do our part to help the victims of this catastrophe” adds Martin, who responded to a call-to-action from the Outdoor Industry Association (Marmot’s partner organization), shortly after the disaster.
Last week, Martin and his team in Santa Rosa, California reserved 1,300 jackets from the company’s distribution center in Reno, Nevada and shipped them to Tokyo, Japan. The donation, which is scheduled to arrive this week, includes several hundred jackets for boys and girls. Among these children’s styles were insulated down jackets and rain jackets.
“As we continue to watch the aftermath unfold, we are moved by Japan’s incredible strength, resilience and perseverance. We believe in the country’s total recovery from this devastation and our hearts and minds are with the people of Japan during this challenging time,” adds Martin.
