Have you ever driven down narrow, winding state highways at night, past run-down motels you swear must’ve been bustling with weary road warriors in decades long gone? There are scores of these once welcomed havens for cross-country roadsters hidden in plain sight outside of resort and mountain towns across America. And luckily, some of them are being brought back to life as community centers for outdoor lovers.

Inspired by road-tripping camping culture of the 1970s, LOGE Camps has made a mission of revitalizing these motels to provide outdoorspeople relaxed, fun and welcoming lodging in the heart of outdoor adventure towns.

LOGE, an acronym for Live Outside Go Explore, offers five locations across the American West that serve as ideal basecamps for year-round explorers.

For skiers, Bend, Oregon, Leavenworth, Washington, and newly opened locations in Mt. Shasta, California and Breckenridge, Colorado, offer the best digs.

Located a mere 20 minutes down the road from Mt. Bachelor, LOGE Bend is the closest accommodation to the resort in the whole town. With its “whole crew room”—a bunk and queen bed—the Bend location is great for hunkering down with a group of traveling buddies in a more intimate setting. LOGE Bend is also dog-friendly, has ski lockers and a hot tub (the pinnacle of après utilities) and offers indoor movie screenings and live music in the dead of winter. The location’s café and bar offers a chill spot to relax after shredding and the famous breweries of Bend are a short bike ride away. In the warmer months, guests can take advantage of LOGE Bend’s full mountain bike performance demo center, as well as its close proximity to nearby biking trails.

Further north in the Cascade Range, LOGE Leavenworth is an outdoor oasis complete with private cabins or hostel digs in a Bavarian dream town. Situated within walking distance of downtown, LOGE Leavenworth allows guests to dive into its German heritage—scores of restaurants serving up Wienerschnitzel, Bavarian architecture, murals and festivals and all the German beer you can guzzle—smack dab in the picturesque, powder-laden Cascade Mountains. Stevens Pass Resort, known for its deep snow, steep skiing and laid-back attitude, is a 40-minute drive down the road, making LOGE Leavenworth an ideal base camp for road-tripping skiers.
If biking is more your thing, a mountain bike demo shop should keep you occupied during your stay. We promise.

Down the coast, LOGE Mt. Shasta offers options for both inbounds and backountry skiers, thanks to its proximity to the Mt. Shasta Ski Park as well as the slopes of California’s iconic Mt. Shasta—a spring skiing paradise. The newly opened location offers hotel rooms, hostel bunks and camping options, depending on preference and season, as well as outdoor fire pits and grills with a cafe, taproom, full kitchen and game room inside.

The newly opened LOGE Breckenridge sits within a 15-minute drive of three world class ski resorts—Breckenridge, Keystone and Copper Mountain. It’s nice to have options, eh? The Summit Stage bus picks up nearby, too, taking the hassle of parking out of the equation. Formerly The Wayside Inn, the new LOGE Breckenridge features modern, renovated
hotel rooms as well as an on-site café opening in 2020 for getting that caffeine fix before tearing up the slopes.

In the “off-season,” LOGE’s Westport, Washington, location should be on your radar. Found on the Pacific Coast, LOGE Westport caters to surfers of all ages. Not only does the location offer a variety of lodging options—hotel rooms, hostel bunks, camping—but on-site surf gear demos and a rental center ensure you can try out the latest and greatest boards and apparel to elevate your time in the water.

Winter, spring, summer or fall, LOGE’s five locations offer incredible experiences for outdoor adventurers eager to hit the road and immerse themselves in nature with like-minded people. While we’re partial to LOGE’s ski-adjacent locations—Bend, Breckenridge, Shasta and Leavenworth—you can’t go wrong with any of ‘em. So, what are you waiting for? Live Outside Go Explore.
