Lights Out For Tramdock.com

Lights Out For Tramdock.com

It’s the end of an era for Tramdock.com. Since 2005, the Backcountry.com ski-specific ODAT (one-deal-at-a-time) site has been offering sweet deals and deep discounts on planks, boots and loads of ski gear. Today, the lights have gone out at Tramdock.com.
Rest assured, skier’s and gear addicts are not left out in the dark. With the close of Tramdock.com, Backcountry.com will be offering customers a better overall experience. Big deals on all things ski-related will now be up for grabs on the original ODAT site for outdoor gear, SteepandCheap.com.

PARK CITY, UTAH (January 13, 2011) — Today was Tramdock.com’s last day. Backcountry.com’s ski-only ODAT (one-deal-at-a-time) site went dark at 7am MST. There’s no need for skiers to freak, though. Huge deals on all things ski will now be up for grabs on the original ODAT site for outdoor gear, SteepandCheap.com

This decision came down just four months after Backcountry closed its snowboard-specific ODAT site, Brociety.com. Why two closures so close together?  The short answer is to give customers a better overall experience.
“Just as we saw with Brociety in relation to WhiskeyMilitia.com, we found that the vast majority of Tramdock shoppers were also Steep and Cheap customers,” said Luke Cudney, ODAT Marketing Director at Backcountry.com. “This means that people were looking for deals on gear in at least two places.  We weren’t serving anyone by making it harder for them. By moving all of Tramdock’s inventory over to Steep and Cheap, we can now sell the same amount of ski stuff, but we can sell it among a diverse selection of other super high-end outdoor gear.  It’ll make for a better customer experience overall.”
Tramdock.com has been around a while. The store was launched in 2005 as an online ski shop for hopelessly devoted skiers in search of all the in-bounds burliness, buttery jib-lets, backcountry asceticism, and anything in between. In late 2008, after Backcountry.com witnessed the huge popularity of its one-deal-at-a-time sites, SteepandCheap.com and WhiskeyMilitia.com, Tramdock was transformed, born again as the skiers’ version of ODAT, featuring an endless storm of ridiculous deals on planks, boots, and ski-specific gear.
“This is a change, but it’s a change that will be better for everyone,” said Cudney. “Ski deals and ODAT still go together like bread and butter, but who wants to survive on bread alone? Now all your killer outdoor gear deals will be served up in one place — on SteepandCheap.com.”
