Interlodge: Looking back at Little Cottonwood Canyon’s historic storm one year later

The extended high-pressure system the West has been stuck in the last six weeks makes it hard to believe that exactly one year ago today Alta and the rest of the Little Cottonwood Canyon community was interlodged for over 48 hours. The historic February 15, 2021 storm dropped 100 inches of snow and over six inches of water and forced skiers and riders to retreat indoors until it was safe to emerge. Thanks to the diligent work of Alta’s ski patrol, skiers were able to reap the benefits of the massive storm cycle for days on end—as captured by filmer Michael Brown for Alta’s ninth episode of their Steeped in Tradition series. Let’s keep our fingers crossed that we’ll see more storms like this in our near future.
