The North Face (TNF) athlete, ski mountaineer Hilaree Nelson has been named Captain for the Global Athlete Team. Conrad Anker, current Team Captain, will co-captain with Nelson for the remainder of 2018, before Nelson fully takes over in 2019.
“It is my great honor to hand the reins of Team Captain to Hilaree Nelson,” said Anker in a recent press release from The North Face. “Hilaree has a long and storied career with The North Face and is well-suited to help make the athlete experience at The North Face meaningful for both the athletes, individuals and the brand.”
Nelson’s list of accomplishments is far from sparse, including a summit of the Himalayan summit of Cho Oyu in Tibet, the first American ascent and ski descent of Papsura Peak, India, the 2018 National Geographic Adventurer of the Year award and the designation as the face of TNF’s Move Mountains Initiative. With all of these notches in her ski belt, being the second athlete—and first woman—to hold the position of Captain seemed like the perfect fit.
“Hilaree was a natural choice to succeed Conrad in the role of Team Captain,” said Mike Ferris, Sr. Director, Global Brand Management in that same press release from The North Face. “In her new role, we know Hilaree will provide the inspiration and mentorship necessary to lead our incredibly dynamic and supportive athlete family into the future.”
General responsibilities for Nelson as Team Captain include serving as the main conduit between the athlete team and The North Face corporate team, acting as the face and voice of the brand, as well as helping build and manage the team of the future.
