JOSS Day 10 – Swedish Open! from Jon Olsson Video Blog on Vimeo.
The Comviq Swedish Open has become a mainstay during the Jon Olsson Super Sessions, giving amateurs a chance to win one of three spots to Jon’s coveted big air, the Jon Olsson Invitational. Today, the weather was not cooperating, yet the park crew and Jon himself groomed the two-jump course for 35 amateurs to tackle. Some paint, some salt, some raking and things were in full swing. While there was a lot of talent to weed through, in the end Finland’s Henri Koskalainen took the big win, with Sweden’s Kristoffer Hedvall and Simon Ericsson taking the 2nd and 3rd qualifying spots.
Practice gave way to a two hour jam session where riders lapped through the park while Jon and Raf looked on and quietly judged, culling the competitors down to ten, in a two-run final. The event was short and sweet. Henri Koskalainen put down solid double wobble 1080s and double flatpsins, thus blowing away the rest. Hedvall continually spun round and round to captivate the judges. While Simon Ericsson through all manners of tricks, from doubles to switch 1080s, even being called ‘Mr. Style’ by Jon Olsson.
While the efforts of many were valiant, there could only be three in the end, who received keys to the Jon Olsson Invitational. And while the weather was gray and rainy and a bit windy, the JOSS riders took the time to start on edits, shoot lifestyle and sneak in last minute urban shots. In the Ã…re square this afternoon, the pros took to the markers to sign a forests worth of posters for hungry kids and well wishers.
As the clock ticks down on JOSS, tomorrow all eyes will be on the JOI Big Air. For more info, check Freeskier.com
