The Freeskier Wydaho office toned down Saturday night debaucheries with due priorities in mind as 2 feet of much needed goodness blanketed the Tetons over the weekend. After a lovely evening highlighted by a brisket feast, holiday ales and pay per view cage fighting, we went to bed ready to rally up the road to celebrate the bounty at Grand Targhee in the morning.

It wouldn’t be December in the Tetons without a few key Targhee sessions. Targhee sits on the snow grubbing western slope of the range with the resort’s base more than 1,500 feet higher than that of Jackson Hole. This means that Targhee goes off with top to bottom pow shredding while JH has to wait awhile longer for more complete mid and lower mountain coverage to set up. This is precisely the scenario right now.

With avalanche danger in the Tetons at High today and coverage still sketchy in spots, only a portion of terrain off the Dreamcatcher lift was open. Nonetheless, the goods that were open were tasty enough to merit thirteen 2,000′ laps. The sky unloaded throughout the day, tracks filled in and the base seemed to grow before our eyes.
