Gear Spotlight: Zeal Portal XL Goggles

Zeal’s Portal XL, featured in the FREESKIER Buyer’s Guide, sports an oversized, spherical lens featuring the brand’s patented quick-change lens system and rimless, frameless styling. These portals to ocular orgasm provide an outrageous field of view and will give you jet-pilot style while you’re cruising at top speed. Available with Zeal’s patented grey-base photochromatic and polarized lenses that automatically adjust tinting from light grey to deep rose, swapping lenses can become a thing of the past. Skiers who prefer switching between high- and low-light lenses, however, don’t have to worry: every Portal XL comes standard with an extra Persimmon Sky Blue Mirror lens tuned for cloudier conditions. Colorado born-and- bred—just like FREESKIER—it’s easy to give the Zeal Portal XL Goggles 2020 two thumbs up here.

About Zeal’s Rail Lock System:

Simply line the lenses up with the two built-in channels on the frame of the goggle and push down to slide them into place. Utilizing two magnets on the bottom of the goggle’s frame ensures your lenses stay put and snow, ice and the rest of Mother Nature’s elements stay out of your way while you’re out on the hill. The lens swapping system is notably intuitive and there’s an audible “snap” when your lenses have successfully been put into place—a nice touch when the wind is blowing on the chairlift and you might otherwise be unsure if the exchanged lenses are ready to go. The //RLs system allows for such a clean, quick swap that it also helps avoid man-handling and smudging your lenses, a common and inconvenient side-effect other fast-change technologies.
