Gallery: The skiing in Northern Vermont is all-time right now

This season, the state of Vermont—especially the northern section—has been blessed with ample snowfall, resulting in some dreamy powder days in the Green Mountains. Skiers are flocking to resorts and the backcountry (yeah, Vermont has a backcountry scene), to get the goods and the media, below, is all the proof you need to understand.

View of #BoltonValley from the #catamounttrail Bolton-Trapps Ridge. Went for a little 21 mile, 5hr, 5000' vert ski yesterday from Bolton to Stowe's Spruce Peak. Up on the ridge I was stoked to see 2 telemarkers breaking trail coming my way from Nebraska Valley but a 1/4 mile later as I followed their tracks I realized I wasn't on the Catamount Trail anymore. They had bushwhacked instead of taking the trail. Pretty sure this was a mistake since they looked like they were struggling and one guy had ski poles that were literally 2' long sticks shoved onto his grips and duct taped there. So much for the trail being broken in. The usual spot where i de-skin wasn't a good spot yesterday because of the deep pow still to be skied through. Once I got to the Trapps Glade I had some nice tracks to follow to get some speed in order to dive into the pow occasionally. Now, I was making good time! I wanted to get to Stowe by 3pm so that I could eat, rest and get ready for the 6pm #skimo race. I love the long cruise from Trapps Glades down to Nebraska Valley. When I got there I ran into @groganjo and crew about to set out on a ski! Always funny to run into the usual suspects in this small world of skiing. From this low point of 1200' on the trail I knew I had to climb to around 3600' at the Stone Hut. Skied through Trapps Nordic. Groomed trails were welcome as fatigue was starting. I took Old Camp Rd from Trapps to Stowe Nordic. Poor choice as it was not skied in and there were several massive stream crossings. Once on the Stowe Nordic trails progress was fast again going downhill on groomers. So fun to rip past nordies on my skimo skis. I even caught people as I skated uphill on Lower Bruce. As it got steeper I decided to skin up and saw the first of several groups of skiers/riders coming from SMR down Bruce. Of course, as I was skinning up I got the inevitable "You're going the wrong way!" joke. Bruce started to kick my ass. Honestly, if I hadn't had to finish with that 2000' climb I probably could've done the skimo race. At the top, the Octogon was a great place to rest, dry off and warm up before the final descent. Legs were shot and I had to take greens and blues down!
