The 24th annual Winter X Games showcased the best freeskiing talent in the world over this past weekend at Buttermilk Mountain in Aspen, Colorado. Spread out over four days of intense action, seven freeskiing events took center stage in Aspen, including the brand-new Knuckle Huck event (won by American Colby Stevenson, who also took home slopestyle gold) and updated jam session format of ski superpipe (Alex Ferreira (USA) won for the second consecutive year on the men’s side, while Kelly Sildaru (EST) took home gold for the women), which was met with positive reviews from athletes and spectators alike.

History was made over the weekend, as Henrik Harlaut (SWE) claimed his 12th Winter X Games medal after winning gold in Big Air, surpassing Tanner Hall as the winningest freeski athlete in X Games history. Colby Stevenson took home dual gold medals in his debut at X Games, standing atop the podium for both Slopestyle and Knuckle Huck. In addition to her Superpipe gold, Kelly Sildaru also secured her fourth straight slopestyle first place finish. Tess Ledeux claimed her second X Games gold medal, taking home the top prize in women’s big air. To round out the 24th Winter X Games, hometown skier Alex Ferreira took home his second straight gold medal in superpipe, much to the delight of the Aspen crowd.

Quotes:

“I’m feeling ecstatic right now, a little bit overwhelmed but really excited. Can’t believe this moment. I’ve been dreaming of this since I was eight years old, watching all my idols shredding the X Games. Back in 2016 I got in a really bad car accident…totally changed my life. After that, eight months later I was able to figure out the mindset for comp skiing, just to do it for love. I’ve just been taking every day as a blessing and taking that momentum from the car crash. I just use that today to just try to stay in the moment, be thankful.” — Colby Stevenson

Quotes:

“For sure the best jumping I’ve ever done in my whole life, and I did two or three jumps that I’ve never done before. I thought about it for a while and I did the first two switch 16s eleven years ago. And I haven’t done one since or tried one since. Just pulled it out when it counted. Tweaked it a little bit, added a little bit of sausage flavor to it. Tanner is the greatest of all time. He’s for sure the best. I don’t know if it really counts, because we have more chances to get medals. Tanner would dominate back to back to back. Shout out to ski boss. Thank you for the inspiration.” — Henrik Harlaut
