On April 30, 2019, freestyle skier Kevin Rolland was hospitalized after taking a heavy crash while attempting to beat the world record for highest air out of a quarterpipe. The 29-year-old was skiing at his hometown mountain in La Plagne, France, when the accident occurred. Rolland was rushed to the Grenoble University Hospital in critical condition and some reports state that the French athlete broke several bones, including his hip. As of today, Rolland’s medical team have indicated that his condition has been stabilized and more information will be released sometime tomorrow.
A seven-times medalist at the Winter X Games and 2009 FIS World Champion, Rolland is one of the longest-tenured athletes in the sport, competing at the top level in both slopestyle and halfpipe skiing.
