FREESKIER Premiere Party Tour — Salt Lake City Recap

FREESKIER Premiere Party Tour — Salt Lake City Recap

Team FREESKIER is hitting the road again to celebrate the start of ski season. We’re teaming up with the best filmmakers in the industry to show you the latest and greatest movies followed by after parties that go late into the night. Check out the full tour schedule to see where we’re stopping next.

Following two whirlwind days in Bozeman, Montana and Park City, Utah, Team FREESKIER had a relatively short commute to our third stop on the Premiere Party Tour in Salt Lake City. After spending Saturday afternoon throwing axes—yeah, you heard that right—we made our way over to The Complex, the warehouse-style venue where Level 1 Productions had booked its SLC movie screening.

With doors opening at promptly at 7PM, moviegoers who were early formed an impressively long line that wrapped around the building and down the block. As the crowd filed into the venue, a handful of the movie’s athletes and sponsors were on-hand to greet the masses. At this showing, Level 1 skiers Kim Boberg, Khai Krepela, Will Wesson, McRae Williams, Will Berman and Thayne Rich were the ones signing autographs and meeting fans who then made their way into the standing room-only theater.

Saturday also had two special opening acts. The first was a guest appearance by Karl Fostvedt, who was in the building to introduce his new short film, Stray Dogs. Second in the lineup was a special three-minute edit from Krepela and LJ Strenio, featuring shots from their time tearing up the streets of Moscow, Russia, last winter.

Finally, after heaps of gear giveaways and a few words by the film’s directors, Josh Berman and Freedle Coty, it was time to dim the lights, get the movie rolling and immerse the crowd in an otherworldly demonstration of skiing’s top talents.

Immediately following the credits, the 21-and-over crowd made their way to the basement of one of Salt Lake City’s coolest venues, Lake Effect, for drinking, dancing and good times. The underground bar, dubbed the “Rabbit Hole,” provided an intimate yet lively atmosphere that allowed the movie’s athletes, filmmakers, brand reps and everyone else to let loose late into the evening.
