Serious partying is a standard ski industry trade show occurrence. Slap a banner on a wall, throw out a keg and get your marketing initiative going. Freeskier tried to do something a little different this year—amid the SIA Snow Snow—by putting together an exhibition of images from our Photo Annual at ArtHaus in Denver. Not only was it a gallery showing, but all the images from the photo annual were joined by a few of our favorites of Sarah Burke, and all of them were available for purchase through a silent auction, with the profits for all of the photographs going to the Sarah Burke Foundation.
With the generous support of Michael Gadlin and Aliki McCain, co-owners of ArtHaus, Under Armour, Level 1, Tenderbelly, Red Bull and PBR the evening was a wonderful success.
Outside, a full pig was smoking thanks to Tenderbelly and the Red Bull DJ truck was playing tunes. Inside ArtHaus PBR’s were in hand and bidding was heated for all the photos. And when the crowd got too big, people were slipping next door to Level 1’s 3333 store for cocktails and to check out all the fresh Level 1 gear.
The Sarah Burke Foundation is dedicated to furthering the generous ideals and spirit to which Sarah dedicated her life. And when the evening came to a close, over five thousand dollars had been raised to go directly to the foundation. If you are interested in supporting the foundation further, please check out the website sarahburkefoundation.com, and also check back at freeskier.com next week; we will be auctioning off another edition of the most popular photo of the evening with a pair of Smith Optics Sarah Burke I/OS goggles.
A huge thank you goes out to the photographers who allowed their art to be used for this great cause. Take a bow guys, with your help—after all the people, the drinks, the friends and the celebrating—even if the ArtHaus had been silent all night we would have shared 35,000 words, all in the name of Sarah.
