Of all the things that inspire us to travel to new destinations, there’s perhaps one single medium that’s the most influential: the photograph. Yes, images created by photographers that pop up on our Instagram feeds, dazzle our eyes in mountain town galleries and inspire us via magazines like this one are often the catalyst for our departures to new lands. 

Over 22,000 photographs were submitted to FREESKIER magazine in 2019 for publishing consideration. Each sharpshooter’s collection mirrored their own way of viewing the world, tiny nuances within each shot that presented the planet—and skiing—in a certain way to the human eye. The 136 gigabytes worth of photos were combed through meticulously over the course of many months, and after careful consideration by FREESKIER’s editors, a selection of the very best grace the following pages.
